Tour introduction

The route to the most remote times of Apulia will start at the archaelogical site of Egnazia, with its acropolis, its necropolis and the ancient Trajan Way remainings; then you will enjoy an evening in the charming atmosphere of Polignano a Mare, strolling along its alleys and cliffs.

You will also visit Canne della Battaglia, famous for the battle in 216 B.C. between the Romans and Hannibal troops, and Canosa, with its rich archaeological park, ending the day in Bari, capital of Puglia.

After a morning in Gravina, prosperous centre during the Neolithic and under the Roman domination, you will move on to Altamura, where a pre-historic man skeleton - named "The Man of Altamura" and dating back to 200-300k years ago - was found along with dynosaurs footprints. Altamura is also known for its Cathedral, the "Pulo of Altamura", the widest karst doline in this area, and its protected origin bread.

Detailed program

Day 1

• 3pm: Participants' meeting in the "Arrivals" hall of Bari airport.
• Afternoon: Transfer and guided tour of the archeological site of Egnazia.
• Transfer to the b&b
• Evening: Dinner in Polignano a Mare and evening on your own.
• Overnight.

Day 2

• Morning: breakfast at the b&b and transfer to Canne della Battaglia. Guided tour of the archaeological site of Canne della Battaglia, primarily known for the Battle of Cannae, where the Roman army suffered a disastrous defeat by Hannibal in 216 BC. Lunch on your own.
• Afternoon: transfer to Canosa. Guided tour of Canosa old town (Hypogeums; Italic Temple consecrated to the goddess Minerva-Athena Ilias; Arch of Trajan, dating back to 109 BC; museum). After the tour, transfer to Bari.
• Evening: Dinner in Bari and free evening.
• Return to the b&b and overnight.

Day 3

• Morning: breakfast at the b&b and transfer to Gravina with its archeological park and well preserved Roman bridge. Lunch on your own.
• Afternoon: transfer to Altamura. Guided tour of the archeological site of Altamura. "The Man of Altamura" is a pre-historic man skeleton dating back to 200-300k years ago. Ancient tombs with fragments of vases and terracottas have also been found and they are now a collection at the Museo Archeologico Statale di Altamura.
• Evening: Dinner at the b&b and overnight.

Day 4

• Breakfast at the b&b and transfer to the airport.

Booking conditions

Minimum of 8 participants.

The price refers to the total cost per person, including VAT.

At the time of booking only 25% of the amount will be required as deposit.

The balance payment must be made within 90 days before departure, subject to confirmation of the minimum number of participants in the tour.

If the minimum number is not confirmed, Discovery Puglia will move the booking to the next tour available at no extra charge or provide a refund of the deposit.
