Tour introduction

A nice walk visiting the most beautiful Romanesque Cathedrals of Puglia.

Taking off in Bari, that boasts two magnificent examples of Romanesque, St Sabin Cathedral and St Nicholas Basilica, sacred to Catholics and Ortodoxes, you will move towards Barletta, Bisceglie and Trani, with its spectacular Cathedral on the sea.

On your onward journey you will visit Andria and Ruvo di Puglia, where a rich Archeological Museum is located and whose cathedral is one of the most representative examples of Apulian Romanesque.

Bitonto will impress you with its old town, before you will drive to Acquaviva and admire the breathtaking St Eustache cathedral and its crypt, with a roof made of 24 groin vaults.

Altamura will capture your spirit by visiting its marvellous cathedral and the historic centre, where you will be delighted during your lunch break by its "protected origin" bread. Your journey will end in Gravina, also known for its rock dwellings and its gravines, sort of canyons dug by water into limestone rock.

Detailed program

Day 1

• 3pm: Participants' meeting in the "Arrivals" hall of Bari airport.
• Afternoon: Visit of Bari old town (St Nicholas Basilica, St Sabinus Cathedral, Norman Castle, Ferrarese square).
• Transfer to the b&b and dinner.
• Overnight.

Day 2

• Morning: breakfast at the b&b and transfer to Barletta. Guided tour of the old town (Basilica del Santo Sepolcro, Castle, Cellar of the Challenge). After the tour, transfer to Trani. Guided tour of Trani and its Cathedral facing the sea. Lunch on your own.
• Afternoon: Transfer to Bisceglie and guided tour of the old town (church of Santa Margherita, Norman Castle, Cathedral).
• Evening: Return to the b&b and dinner.
• Overnight.

Day 3

• Morning: breakfast at the b&b and transfer to Andria. Guided tour of Andria old town (12th-century cathedral with its 8th-century crypt; Ducal Palace) and Ruvo (Cathedral, one of the most famous examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture).
• Afternoon: Guided tour of Bitonto old town with its ancient city gateway, the Romanesque Cathedral of S. Valentino and the noble palaces.
• Evening: Return to the b&b and dinner.
• Overnight.

Day 4

• Morning: breakfast at the b&b and transfer to Acquaviva delle Fonti. Visit of Acquaviva old town (Cathedral, De Mari Palace, Clock Tower). After the tour, transfer to Altamura. Guided tour of Altamura old town and lunch on your own.
• Afternoon: transfer to Gravina. Guided tour of Gravina (Cathedral, Swabian Castle, Dukes Palace).
• Evening: Return to the b&b and dinner.
• Overnight.

Day 5

• Breakfast at the b&b and transfer to the airport.

Booking conditions

Minimum of 8 participants.

The price refers to the total cost per person, including VAT.

At the time of booking only 25% of the amount will be required as deposit.

The balance payment must be made within 90 days before departure, subject to confirmation of the minimum number of participants in the tour.

If the minimum number is not confirmed, Discovery Puglia will move the booking to the next tour available at no extra charge or provide a refund of the deposit.
